Courtship in the Canopy – Crowned Cranes

Love At First Dance. High atop an acacia tree in the Serengeti a pair of Grey Crowned Cranes begins their courtship. Glistening like tiaras, their golden crests flash in the morning light. Coyly preening her feathers, she watches as her Lifemate spreads his brilliant wings in an irresistible invitation to dance. Bound for life, they will soon build a nest and raise their brood amidst the thorny canopy of the umbrella acacia. The only cranes that nest in trees, they and their family are safer there from many predators. Another jewel in the crown of Tanzania’s wildlife.
